西瓜单词

escort是什么意思

escort

英 ['eskɔːt] 美 ['ɛskɔt]
  • n. 陪同;护航舰;护卫队;护送者
  • vt. 护送;陪同;为…护航

escort 助记提示

1. The notion underlying escort is of 'guidance', of 'showing the right path'.
2. ex- => es- + (correct => corrig- => corg- => cort-) => escort.
3. 词源上这个词和correct同源,但引申较多,在此用联想。es前缀“外边”,cort看成cart(二轮运货马车),字面义“在马车外”。古时护镖人跟随马车一路前行,又有关云长千里走单骑护送兄妻,也是一路走在马车外边。

escort 英文词源

escort
escort: [16] The notion underlying escort is of ‘guidance’, of ‘showing the right path’. The word comes via French from Italian scorta ‘guide’, a noun use of the past participle of scorgere ‘show, guide’. This in turn came from Vulgar Latin *excorrigere, a compound verb formed from the prefix ex- ‘out’ and Latin corrigere ‘put right’ (source of English correct).
=> correct

The sense of "person accompanying another to a social occasion" is 1936.
escort (v.)
